The AIIA SA Council has decided to create university liaison positions to increase engagement with the academic institutions. The Council welcomes the participation of Dr Leoni Connah, Flinders University, and Dr Ainoa Cabada Rey, University of Adelaide, to the Council in these university Liaison positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Connah and Dr Cabada will work with the Branch to identify opportunities to collaborate between our organisations where it helps advance our mission to help Australians know more, understand more, and engage more in international affairs. The Council looks forward to working with Dr Connah and Dr Cabada throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Ainoa Cabada<\/strong> is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in International Security in the Department of Politics and International Relations at The University of Adelaide. Ainoa has a particular interest in the role that sovereignty plays in human rights as a result of state dominance. Her academic background is in philosophy and international law and has undertaken her PhD from the areas of politics and international relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her postdoctoral research focuses on the blacklisting of political dissidents and addresses how the exploitation of such practices by authoritarian states undermines human rights, threaten democratic progress, and contribute to increasing refugee outflows. Her current research seeks to propose strategies for the international community to counteract the misuse of blacklisting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Leoni Connah<\/strong> is currently a Lecturer in International Relations at Flinders University. Dr Connah holds a PhD in International Relations from Lancaster University in the UK. Her PhD thesis and ongoing research explores the changing nature of the conflict in Kashmir in recent years and the impact this has had for regional South Asian security, as well as human security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Connah\u2019s publications cover a wide range of issues on South Asian security, from US intervention in Afghanistan, to the conflict in the Indian Northeast. Such publications can be found in peer-reviewed academic journals including South Asia Research, Peace Review, Global Change, Peace & Security and others.
